The nominees for the 16th Crown Gospel Music Awards were announced in a glittering all-white party in Sandton, Johannesburg. More than 300 gospel artists, producers, celebrities, and members of the media attended the event, which was dubbed "The Crowns."
The awards will take place for the first time at the FNB Stadium on Sunday, November 26, in a 10,000-seater dome marque. Tickets are available for purchase from TicketPro and Spar.
"As Gauteng, we are honored to host The Crowns," said Morakane Mosupyoe, the province's arts, culture, sports, and recreation MEC. "I am blown away by the level of excellence displayed here and the talent that has been on stage. As Gauteng, we would really love to keep The Crowns for another seven years."
Local celebrities in attendance at the nominee announcement included Winnie Ntshaba, Sophie Ndaba, and Mcdonald Ndou.
"Tebs David, 3C Live, Jumbo, Dumi Mkokstad, Sbu Noah, Omega, Butho Vuthela, and Canaan Nyathi are amongst the artists who are nominated in big categories," said Zanele Mbokazi, the award ceremony's executive producer. "I am excited with the new faces that have made it to the nominees list, a demonstration that the industry is growing.
"The competition in the big two categories, Best Gospel Artist and Best Gospel Song, is fierce, and we urge fans to vote."
Voting for the categories opens on Monday afternoon at 5:00 PM.
